Mary Williams Doll House Dolls
 Guild level: Guild Officer

Guild Officer

My name is Mary Williams and I’d like to tell you something about my dolls. Ladies are 5½ inches tall, men 6 inches, I occasionally make 1/24th scale dolls too! All of my dolls are made from porcelain, I’ve been making dolls for about 6 years and sell via my website www.dollshousedolls.co.uk and at Spring and Autumn Miniatura and Alexandra Palace Dolls House show.

My dolls are made from commercial moulds which I buy from the US. The moulds are poured with porcelain slip, then de-moulded the parts are then allowed to part dry, the seams from the moulds are then cleaned with a brush and distilled water, this process can take a week to do alone depending on how many parts I pour. They are then allowed to dry completely. They are then fired in the kiln and the task of china painting begins, the dolls can have at least four sessions back in the kiln during painting. It’s a very time consuming process.

My favourite period is the Edwardian Era the evening dresses were so feminine, closely followed by the Art Deco period.  I often think I would have loved to get dressed up like this to go out for the evening, with the help of a maid of course!
