My name is Alison
Fleming and I now live in Lancashire, where we moved from Sussex in
1988.I began making big porcelain dolls in 1985, and switched to
miniatures in about 1993, when I started buying moulds from the USA.
I was teaching classes in porcelain doll making and dressing from
about 1986, but when I started miniature dolls, I found that most
people wanted to dress them, rather than make them from scratch,
(there were a LOT of breakages in the green ware stage, and most
students couldn't cope with the tiny painting!), so I stopped
teaching the porcelain side and concentrated on the costuming. I
have taught classes all over the UK, at British Miniaturist's
Weekends, and also in Spain and the USA. Aside from dolls, I also
teach other miniature projects, and write occasionally for the
Doll's House Magazine.
I love building dolls houses from scratch, and enjoy almost every
aspect of miniature making except perhaps Polymer Clay, which I have
never really got to grips with! All my attempts at sculpting have
ended up in the bin!
I like to make the dolls I get an inspiration for, and hate having
to make more than perhaps 2 the same. I love the Victorian/Edwardian
ladies costumes, and revel in the extensive research necessary to
get the right look.
I do sell my dolls, privately, or through my website, mostly to
finance my (mini) habit! :o)
